Carl Solway Gallery’s, 50th Anniversary Exhibition: THANKS, features the work of 58 artists who have shown their work at the gallery during its 50 year history.
Highlights include a painting Jim Dine created especially for the occasion, a new painting by Peter Halley and very recent paintings by Pat Steir and Joan Snyder. The exhibition showcases the tremendous range of interests reflected by the gallery’s programs and will highlight painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and new media. Prints… Show more by historical figures such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Jean Dubuffet and Alexander Calder reference the gallery’s formative years in the early 1960s. Through John Cage, Carl Solway forged productive relationships with visionary artists such as Buckminster Fuller and Nam June Paik. An affinity for popular culture led to associations with those loosely connected to Pop Art such as Tom Wesselmann, Jim Dine, and Claes Oldenburg. The show encompasses younger artists working with current digital technologies including Alan Rath and Jim Campbell. The list of artists is international in scope, but a number have greater Cincinnati connections, including Dine, Wesselmann, Rath, Jay Bolotin, J.M. Cockerill, Anita Douthat, Cal Kowal, Richard George, Noel Martin, Rocio Rodriguez and Tom Shelton. Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm, Saturday noon – 5pm
