Yum!

Discovered Thai food while living in San Francisco area---since moving back to the Miami Valley, have been consistently disappointed in the offerings of local Thai restaurants, so we had given up. Then a friend recommended Tik's Thai Grill. We were like: Meh, but last night we wanted to eat within 10 minutes of home and something new. So, what the heck...

What the heck indeed! Great experience! Tucked in a strip mall in what was once a Moto-Photo, Thai Grill is beautiful inside, although really---what's with the TVs? (Not to mention they were turned to MSNBC!!!) This is NOT a sports bar, after all. The flickering electronic images were a discord in what is otherwise an elegant, exotic ambiance. The background music was also very peaceful and enjoyable.

It was later, so we ate light. Started with the mango-avocado spring rolls. Oh, delicious! Cones of rice skins wrapped fresh, crisp veggies, creamy slices of avocado and fruity wedges of mango with a side of slightly spicy peanut sauce. We could have made a meal of them!

DH ordered the "Love's Cashew Nut with Chicken". It came with a housemade smoky chile sauce, barely cooked, still crisp vegetables, generous portions of chicken, and a mound of fluffy rice. DH is not as Thai-crazy as me, but he scraped his plate free. In fact, with a few forkfuls still on the plate, he had to excuse himself for a moment, and he told me three times: "don't let them take my food away---I want it!" Sure enough, when he came back, he finished it off, pronto!

I had the Deluxe Fried Rice. It was served in a pineapple bowl, which was sort of fun, though a bit awkward, working around the crown. Think of savory, ginger-tinged rice filled with perfectly cooked shrimp, pineapple, veggies, cashew nuts, raisins, and chicken too! (The chicken was bit over-cooked to me, but I seriously prefer my chicken dangerously barely cooked---so that's a personal preference. DH said it was perfect.) It was delicious---and the bowl seemed never ending. I never did get to the bottom and packed a hefty portion of leftovers home for lunch today, if my son doesn't eat it first!

Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Menu has a huge variety---we can't wait to go back! I want to try the Laarb Gai, the Beef Salad, the Tom Yum Soup, some of the curries....I am so excited. Hope the second visit lives up to the first!

Oh, and it was kind of chill---hey--my body is used to 90 degree temps!---so I ordered a mug of ginger tea. That was so GOOD. It was very unusual, gingery and sweetish and tummy-tingling. A must-try!

Yum, yum, yum...when can we go again?
